It’s the season for pumpkin patches in the Bay Area and, if you haven’t noticed, that’s kind of a big deal around here. I know what you might be thinking—sure, you could easily snag a couple decent pumpkins on your next trip to the grocery store. But is that really how you want to play it?

For me, visiting pumpkin patches is one of those things where the journey really is the destination, as cliché as that sounds. It’s about the experience being outside with friends and family, the crisp fall air, corn mazes and tractor rides. It’s about making memories.

We love connecting folks with our local farmland. It’s part of the reason we’re working so hard to protect it. So, to help you find the gourd of your dreams, here are some of our favorite pumpkin patches on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.

A BUSY TIME ON THE COAST

Did you know that Half Moon Bay is the World Pumpkin Capital? If you’re heading coastside, you’ll want to hit the road early and build in extra travel time in case there’s gnarly traffic. But don’t let the crowds squash your dreams of pick-your-own pumpkin patches and farm stand fun! It’s worth seeing stunning farmland views studded with bountiful orange fields and charming scarecrows.

The weekend of October 19-20 will be especially festive thanks to the world-famous Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival. If you’re a fan of automobile-sized pumpkins and pumpkin-themed snacks, this must-visit event is a spooktacular treat. Stop by POST’s table to say hello and learn more about our work on the coast!

Happy hunting!
