Local Environmental Educator Jeff Caplan is teaching the first live virtual workshop on the Backyard Bird Language May 15, you’ll be able to use your understanding of bird languages in your own backyard! Open to nature-lovers of all ages, no experience necessary. Be sure to register for both workshops and mark your calendars, these sessions arelive and will not be recorded. Registrants will receive instructions on how to access the webinar.
In these workshops you will learn:
The five most common voices of songbirds and variations
How to differentiate their communication between sound, movement, and alarm
How to observe, journal and interpret conversations
The bird language skills to use on a hike, in your backyard, or sitting quietly in the city
Workshop 1: Bird Language and Human Language
Songbirds are the inter-connected eyes and ears of our ecosystems. But can we learn what they are saying? This first session explores the connections between bird language and human language. You’ll learn the most common forms of bird language and methods to help you understand what the birds are saying – you’ll even use emojis to help you remember! All registrants will receive a downloadable Bird Language mini-journal for the bird conversation homework before Workshop 2. Register below for Workshop 1. About Our Instructor – Jeff Caplan
Jeff Caplan has has more than 30 years experience as a naturalist and a teacher of communication skills. He has lead workshops in Yosemite through the University of California as well as internationally in Malaysia, the Galapagos and in the Amazon jungles of Ecuador. His Bird Language Workshops help participants cultivate a common language for connecting more deeply with nature and birds.
