Join Peninsula Open Space Trust and Grassroots Ecology for this unique group volunteer event restoring Redwood Creek.

Volunteers will be beautifying the shore and supporting sensitive habitat areas along Redwood Creek. We will remove large invasive plants, pick up trash, and add a fresh layer of wood chips to our restoration areas in order to reduce water loss and suppress weeds. This stretch of creek is a short distance from the San Francisco Bay, and our maintenance will help prevent trash from persisting in the waterway. This event will involve using hand tools, lifting and carrying buckets, bending, and walking on uneven terrain.

Redwood Creek is located in the heart of downtown Redwood City within an ecologically rich marsh-upland transition zone. With the help of community volunteers, this segment of creek provides multiple benefits to the watershed, the urban forest, and the surrounding community.

Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Redwood Creek webpage to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations. We will release more details closer to the date of the event. Keep an eye out for an email containing information about what to bring, wear, etc!

Grassroots Ecology is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for public lands and waters across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Each year they engage thousands of people in hands-on education and service that improves our local environment.

Grassroots Ecology’s aim is to restore natural functions to the ecosystem by keeping invasive plants in check, growing locally native plants at their nursery, supporting stream restoration and fish passage projects, and planting a diversity of species in order to feed wildlife.
