POST and Sports Basement are proud to present an incredible line-up of speakers for our second annual Women in the Outdoors event. We will be hosting:
Join us starting at 5:00 PM for browsing, mingling, drinking, snacking and chatting. Then, we’ll hear from our speakers during a brief presentation followed by a Q&A session. The program will conclude at 7:00 PM, then attendees will have an hour to shop, sign up as a Basementeer, and enjoy a 20% discount at Sports Basement that same evening!
This free event will also host other nonprofits and businesses that encourage outdoor activities like Surfrider San Mateo, Our City Forest, Bay Area Ridge Trail, and more.
Yiwei is the Executive Director of the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory. Yiwei grew up in the Bay Area and attended Cornell University where she double majored in Biology and Psychology. She earned a PhD in Environmental Studies at UC Santa Cruz working on the impacts of human development on mountain lions. Her natural resources career has taken many places ranging from the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory to working with NGOs in Northern Kenya. She will share about her journey and discuss opportunities for those interested in natural resources.
Ana is Midpen’s general manager, overseeing the successful implementation of the organization’s mission by more than 170 staff. Preservation and stewardship of open space are lifelong passions for Ruiz, who began her career with Midpen in 1998. The board appointed her as General Manager in June of 2018. She holds a bachelor’s degree in geological and environmental sciences from Stanford University and a master’s in Urban Planning from SJSU. She looks forward to sharing her journey with you!
Megan is the Executive Director of Green Foothills. She is a community organizer at heart and fiercely believes in the power of people and grassroots action. Megan graduated from San Jose State with an Environmental Studies degree and is an active member of the American Leadership Forum’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Liberation Affinity Group. She is honored to have received the Greenbelt Alliance Champion Award in 2017, and looks forward to spending an inspiring evening at this event.
Ofelia is the Executive Director of Youth United for Community Action. Ofelia was born and raised in East Palo Alto and is a graduate of the Ravenswood School District and Eastside College Prep. She earned a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara, and a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco in Urban and public Affairs. She has also worked with grassroots organizations, coalitions and community members to address the community’s housing needs, with a specific focus on the needs of low-income, working class, and/or immigrant communities of color. She’ll be sharing about her amazing organization and her experiences.
