MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (January 8, 2025) — Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) announced today that it will present a special evening with bestselling author Amy Tan on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 7:00 to 9:30 PM PST, at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. The conversation will also be available via live stream for virtual attendees.
Amy Tan is a Bay Area resident, known best for her iconic novel The Joy Luck Club. In conversation with Alexis Madrigal, journalist and co-host of KQED’s Forum, Tan will share themes from her new book, Backyard Bird Chronicles, a best-selling illustrated compilation of sketches and observations she made through birdwatching. The conversation will include her stories of backyard birding, and the broader connections among nature, identity and storytelling. The evening will include a book signing, where attendees can purchase Backyard Birding Chronicles and have it signed by Amy Tan.
“The evening promises a unique opportunity to celebrate the ways in which everyday interactions with nature can profoundly impact our lives and deepen our commitment to protecting the world around us,” said Mark Medeiros, director of community engagement for POST.

Amy Tan
Bay Area local and resident Amy Tan is the acclaimed author of The Joy Luck Club, which became a New York Times bestseller and was adapted into a major motion picture. Her literary achievements include bestsellers The Kitchen God’s Wife and The Bonesetter’s Daughter. Her latest work, Backyard Birding Chronicles, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and blends her love of nature with her artistic and literary talents. A passionate conservationist, Amy serves on the boards of the American Bird Conservancy, the National Poetry Series, and The Community of Writers.
Alexis Madrigal
Alexis Madrigal is a journalist and co-host of KQED’s Forum. A contributing writer at The Atlantic and co-founder of The COVID Tracking Project, Alexis has also served as editor-in-chief of Fusion and staff writer at Wired. His work bridges technology, society, and storytelling.
