POST Appoints Two New Board Members

February 3, 2015

(Palo Alto, Calif.)—Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) announced it has appointed two new members to its Board of Directors: Merus Capital co-founder Sean Dempsey and marketing consultant Kim Young. Both have been active supporters of POST and are eager to help expand access to local open spaces and increase public consciousness about the ongoing need for local land protection.

Sean Dempsey

Dempsey grew up in Los Gatos and discovered the area’s protected open spaces as an adult through long-distance trail running. It was during this time spent on local trails that he was inspired to support POST. Since then, he has served on POST’s Skyline Committee, a volunteer group of donors that helps POST reach out to existing donors and cultivate new supporters. In addition to POST, Dempsey is a board member of AdRoll, AllClear ID and Womply. He also serves on the advisory board for Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont McKenna College.

“There are a lot of opportunities that fit within POST’s mission,” said Dempsey. “Acquiring land and connecting it for wildlife, recreation, watersheds and viewsheds is important. Our challenge at this point in our history is prioritizing projects that are equally important but may not be viewed as traditional land trust activities.”

Kim Young

Young, a former Stegner Fellow at Stanford University, converted from nature enthusiast to conservationist after meeting Wallace Stegner during her studies. She sat on the steering committee for POST’s Heart of the Redwoods Campaign, which recently reached its $50 million fundraising goal, and is an avid hiker. She is a member of the Stanford Cancer Council, a former board member of the Children’s Health Council and previously served as a foundation fundraiser for local public schools.

“There are two elements that drew me to POST,” said Young. “The first is the mission—to preserve and protect the stunning open spaces around our Peninsula. The second reason is the leadership, which is so strong. POST is filled with smart, passionate professionals who know how to set goals and achieve them.”
