Local Environmental Educator Jeff Caplan is teaching the second live virtual workshop on the Backyard Bird Language May 22you’ll be able to use your understanding of bird languages in your own backyard! Open to nature-lovers of all ages, no experience necessary. Be sure to register below for the second workshop and mark your calendars, these sessions are live and will not be recorded. Registrants will receive instructions on how to access the webinar.

In these workshops you will learn:
  • The five most common voices of songbirds and variations
  • How to differentiate their communication between sound, movement, and alarm
  • How to observe, journal and interpret conversations
  • The bird language skills to use on a hike, in your backyard, or sitting quietly in the city


Workshop 2: How to Listen and Learn from Birds

After a short review, we will study more rare but equally important forms of bird language, that is especially heard during Spring mating season. This session will include advanced tips for how to listen and learn from the birds as you sit in your backyard, as you take a walk around your block, or when you finally go on your bucket list trip to the Galapagos to hear Darwin’s finches using their specific adaptations of bird language. About Our Instructor – Jeff Caplan

Jeff Caplan has has more than 30 years experience as a naturalist and a teacher of communication skills. He has lead workshops in Yosemite through the University of California as well as internationally in Malaysia, the Galapagos and in the Amazon jungles of Ecuador.
